Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know about how Budgetify works — from automatic tracking to backups — and why your financial data never leaves your phone.

Getting started

What is Budgetify?

Budgetify is a personal budgeting app for Android that turns the bank SMS you already receive into a clear picture of your money — automatically and entirely on your phone. It tracks income and expenses, budgets, savings goals, net worth and more, with no accounts, no cloud, and no ads.

Do I need to create an account or sign in?

No. There's no account, no email, and no phone number to register. Install the app and start straight away — there's nothing to log in to, because there's no server on the other side.

Does Budgetify need an internet connection?

No. Budgetify runs 100% offline and doesn't even request the Android internet permission, so it keeps working on a plane, in a tunnel, or anywhere with no signal. It's also why your data can never be uploaded — the app simply has no way to send it anywhere.

How much does Budgetify cost?

Budgetify is free to use. Some advanced extras may be offered as an optional premium upgrade through Google Play. If you buy one, Google handles the payment and the app only learns whether your subscription is active — never your card number or billing details.

Which languages does it support?

Six: English, हिन्दी (Hindi), मराठी (Marathi), বাংলা (Bengali), తెలుగు (Telugu), and தமிழ் (Tamil).

Tracking & transactions

How does automatic transaction tracking work?

When your bank sends a transaction SMS — UPI, card, ATM, NEFT and the rest — Budgetify reads it on your device, recognises the bank's format, and pulls out the amount, date, merchant/payee and account to create a ledger entry. It does this in real time and through periodic background scans. All of the parsing happens locally; no message is ever sent off your phone.

Can I use the app without giving it SMS access?

Yes. Automatic tracking is optional — you can decline the SMS permission (or revoke it later in Android settings) and simply add transactions by hand. Every other feature still works.

What if a transaction is detected incorrectly?

You can edit any part of a transaction at any time. Budgetify uses per-bank templates and strict sender matching to stay accurate, and it flags low-confidence guesses in a review queue instead of quietly getting them wrong — so nothing lands in your ledger without your say-so.

Can I import older history or bank statements?

Yes. You can import CSV or Excel statements from any bank to fill in the months from before you installed the app, or that the SMS pipeline never saw.

How are my transactions organised?

Spending is auto-categorised, and you can label transactions with built-in or custom emoji tags and set reusable rules so similar transactions classify themselves. Self-transfers and investments are kept out of your spending totals, so your figures reflect real expenses.

Budgets, goals & planning

Can I set budgets?

Yes. Set an overall monthly budget and per-category limits (envelopes), and Budgetify tracks your progress and can warn you as you approach a limit.

Does it handle recurring bills and subscriptions?

Yes. Add subscriptions, rent, EMIs and other recurring payments, and Budgetify reminds you before they're due — and can automatically link each one to the debit that pays it.

Can I track savings goals and net worth?

You can earmark savings toward specific goals and watch your progress, and record assets, liabilities, holdings and SIPs to follow your overall net worth over time.

Can I split expenses with friends?

Yes — there's an offline, Splitwise-style ledger where the other people are just names, not accounts. Nobody else has to install anything or sign up, and you can settle up whenever you're square.

Insights & extras

What insights does Budgetify give me?

Alongside charts like a category donut and merchant breakdowns, you get a financial health score, a "safe-to-spend" figure, and a built-in money coach that surfaces gentle insights and nudges — deliberately built on robust statistics so it doesn't cry wolf.

What is Monthly Wrapped?

A shareable, theme-aware recap of your month, with an optional animated version. By default it highlights patterns and percentages rather than exact amounts, so you can share it freely and only reveal your real numbers if you choose to.

What are streaks, trophies and royal avatars?

They're part of an optional gamified layer — logging streaks (with the occasional "freeze" to protect them), achievements and trophies, and a reward road that unlocks themes and collectible royal avatars — to make staying on top of your money a bit more fun.

Is there a home-screen widget?

Yes. A widget gives you an at-a-glance read on your finances without opening the app.

Privacy, security & your data

Which permissions does Budgetify request, and why?

Only what it needs: SMS (optional, to detect bank transactions), notifications (for reminders and alerts), and biometric access (if you turn on app lock). It does not request internet, location, camera, microphone, contacts, or advertising identifiers. Full details are in the Privacy Policy.

Can I lock the app or hide my balances?

Yes. Protect Budgetify behind your device's fingerprint or face unlock, and switch on Privacy Mode to hide every amount with a single toggle — handy when someone's glancing at your screen.

How do backups work, and how do I move to a new phone?

You can create a backup that's encrypted with AES-256 using a passphrase only you know, and save it wherever you like. To switch phones, make a backup on the old device and restore it on the new one. Keep the passphrase safe: if it's lost, the backup can't be opened by anyone — including us.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Export your transactions to Excel, CSV, PDF or plain text through Android's own file picker. From there the file is yours to keep, move, or share.

Do you keep any of my data?

No — nothing. Budgetify has no servers and collects no personal data, so there's no copy of your information anywhere but your own device.

How do I delete everything?

Delete individual records inside the app, or clear the app's storage / uninstall it to wipe the entire on-device database. Step-by-step instructions are on the How to delete your data page.
